The Toole Scholarship is awarded each year to one or more incoming freshmen who have been diagnosed with a life threatening or chronic disease; have a sibling with a life threatening or chronic disease; or have experienced the death of a sibling. The amount of the award varies each year, as does the number of recipients. A student who fits one or more of these criteria is encouraged to apply for the scholarship. Applicants must answer three short essay questions and submit medical verification of their/their sibling’s condition. Medical information will remain private and will be destroyed after the selection process is complete.
Addison Toole dreamed of attending The University of Alabama, but he lost a courageous three-year battle with cancer in 2008 before he could do so. This scholarship was created by his loving family to honor Addison and his older brother Martin’s compassion, love, and commitment to their family and to others, as well as to ensure that other children are recognized for their courage when faced with similar challenges.
